As some of you may be aware, my family welcomed a new addition in January. We have been spending time getting to know the newest member of our family and while it has been busy, it has been wonderful.

Our son is truly the light of my life - I've never loved someone as deeply as I do my own child.

Every facet of bringing him into the world has been an incredible learning experience. It has changed my perceptive on how I would like to work with maternity clients and renewed my interest in pursuing birth photography. Before I gave birth, I always felt that it was the most human experience. It's not glamorous but it is real. The beginning of a life is incredible to witness on so many accounts. I was amazed at how perfect my son is, how strong my partner is, and what my body is capable of. While it didn't go quite as I had planned, I still maintain that it was and will remain one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

There is only one regret I have about my birth experience - I didn't more actively pursue a birth photographer. Those are memories clouded by several hours of labour, exhaustion, and emotions. These were also the only memories I simply wasn't able to capture for myself. My camera sat in the room untouched. I simply couldn't focus on capturing my delivery and completing it at the same time - who knew?!

I wish I could see my face in the instant I saw my son for the first time - a moment I won't forget. But a moment I would have loved captured.

This has, without doubt, reinvigorated my interest in birth photography. Any other time I considered pursuing this opportunity, something stood in the way - be it a full-time job, a jam-packed schedule, or little flexibility in my family life. For the first time, I have flexibility, support, and a whole new perspective on why this is an important element of family photography.

Before 2018 comes to a close, I am hoping to have three birth clients who are wanting these moments captured. You will get me when you are approaching active labour and I will be on-hand until your little bundle is 2 hours fresh. If you or someone you know is delivering in London to Woodstock hospitals, or at home or a birthing centre in London, Middlesex, Elgin or Oxford Counties, spread the word!

There is absolutely no charge for these shoots.

There is absolutely no requirement for delivery to be au natural, either. Birth is birth by whatever method you choose or require. No judgements, here!

If you know someone who might fit the bill, have the complete this contact form with the subject "Birth Photography 2018".
